Este trabajo explora la construcción de identidades sociales en la región noreste de México y sureste de Estados Unidos a partir de las narrativas y sistemas clasificatorios expuestos por sujetos “expertos” vinculados al campo de la música popular. La intención es seguir el proceso de construcción de la diferencia y la identidad, a partir de la visión de aquello que separa y une la música tejana y la música norteña. En esta reconstrucción, aparecen y se discuten los conceptos de norte, región sociocultural y frontera, y del papel que cumplen en este proceso.

Music, border and northeastern identity.

This work explores the construction of social identities in the northeastern region of Mexico and in the southeast of the United States from the accounts and classificatory systems exposed by “experts” in the field of popular music. The main idea is to follow the construction process of difference and identity from the vision of what separates and unites Texan and norteña music. The concepts of north, sociocultural region and border appear and are discussed in this paper, as well as the role that they play in this process.
