En la geografía humana de hoy encontramos un intenso debate alrededor del concepto paisaje. Aunque el determinismo geográfico de principios del siglo XX cada vez es más una anécdota, no queda tan lejos el objetivismo de mediados del mismo siglo. Por fortuna, la geografía humana se nutre con mayor frecuencia de los avances de la teoría social, donde encontramos una renovada discusión propuesta por la “nueva geografía cultural”, una mayor atención a temas no tradicionales de la geografía como las “representaciones”, así como reflexiones en el marco
del “cultural turn”. En este trabajo se revisa la trayectoria del concepto paisaje en la geografía, así como los retos teóricos y metodológicos que se imponen a raíz de las discusiones
contemporáneas.

TO THINK THE LANDSCAPE:
Exploring a geographical concept

In today’s human geography we find an intense debate around the landscape concept. Although the geographical determinism permeating at the beginning of the XX Century is more frequently considered as an anecdote, the objectivism present in the 1950’s is not too far yet. Fortunately, the human geography is more frequently nurtured from the advances of the social theory where we find a renovated discussion proposed by the “new cultural geography”, and a bigger attention to non traditional topics of the geography such “representations”, and reflections made on the framework of the so-called “cultural turn”. In this document the trajectory of the concept landscape as a geographical concept is revised, as well as the theoretical and methodological challenges that are imposed soon after the contemporary discussions.
