Abstract

This study analyzes the decline of internal migration in Mexico using census data from 2000, 2010, and 2020. The results show a decrease in recent migration intensity, primarily associated with changes in the age structure resulting from the demographic transition. The reduction in the young population has contributed to the weakening of migration flows and to a territorial reconfiguration of the country’s internal population movements.
