El propósito del ensayo consiste en ubicar algunos de los interlocutores con mayor visibilidad y peso en el debate internacional sobre el futuro de la educación superior, así como en discernir las principales líneas de argumentación en juego. En la primera sección el autor se ocupa de las perspectivas del Banco Mundial y la UNESCO sobre la reforma de la educación superior. En la segunda, reseña algunos documentos de reciente publicación que ofrecen diagnósticos y recomendaciones sobre distintos sistemas nacionales de educación superior. Revisa el caso de Francia a través del reporte de la comisión Attali; el del Reino Unido con el reporte de la comisión dearing; el caso de Estados Unidos mediante el informe de la comisión Boyer y el caso de España a través del informe de la comisión Bricall.

The purpose of this essay is to distinguish the more visible and important speakers on the stand for international debate on the future of Superior Education. This interplay stresses the main themes that are discussed. For instance, in the first section, the author shows the perspectives of the World Bank and the UNESCO with regard to the reform of Superior Education. The second part deals with documents that have been recently published that offer diagnosis and recommendations on different national systems of Superior Education. It reviews a case in France through the Attali Commission; United Kingdom, with the report of the Dearing Commission; United States, with the report from the Boyer Commission and Spain, through the report from the Bricall Commission.
