Por su
larga duración y perfil de lento crecimiento,
la etapa actual del capitalismo se ha definido como una crisis
estructural de largo plazo asociada a la tendencia descendente
de la tasa de ganancia, dicha crisis se evidenció a
fines de los sesenta y se prolonga hasta principios de los
ochenta, cuando empieza a recuperarse. Este giro ascendente
de la tasa de ganancia supuso el comienzo de un nuevo periodo
de carácter expansivo. Sin embargo, el largo periodo
de inestabilidad y bajo crecimiento se ha prolongado hasta
las décadas recientes y se ha impuesto en los diversos
países. Ni los efectos del largo periodo de bajo y turbulento
crecimiento, ni las transformaciones asociadas a las tecnologías
de la información, a la mundialización financiera
y comercial y a la acentuada centralización del capital,
fenómenos todos que caracterizan la etapa actual del
capitalismo, han propiciado un aumento sostenido de la tasa
de ganancia y de la acumulación productiva.

PROFIT RATE, TRANSFORMATIONS AND CURRENT STAGE OF CAPITALISM

Given
its long-lasting and low-profile of growth, the current stage
of capitalism has been defined as a long-run structural crisis,
associated with the descending tendency in the profit rate
that was observed in the late 60’s and extended
up to the early eighties, when it started to recover. This
upward shift in the profit rate implied the start of a new
long expansive cycle. Nevertheless, the long lasting period
of instability and low growth has extended to the last decades
and has prevailed in a number of countries. Nor the effects
of the long period of low and turbulent growth, nor the transformations
associated with the information technologies, the financial
and trade globalization, and the marked capital centralization,
phenomena that characterize the current stage of capitalism,
have favored a sustained rise in the profit rate and the productive
accumulation.
