Una doble lectura

En este artículo el autor está motivado por una doble, contradictoria y personal forma de leer la obra de Pierre Bourdieu. La primera, es el resultado de sus propias respuestas en torno a la pregunta sobre si las teorías de Bourdieu son útiles o inútiles para las tareas de investigación que emprenden los sociólogos que trabajan en América Latina. La segunda, proviene del reconocimiento de que algunos trabajos de Bourdieu parecen ser valiosos, no tanto para la formulación de los problemas de investigación, sino para la formación general de los estudiantes de sociología y de los sociólogos de América Latina. Lo que sugiere en este artículo es que Bourdieu es un autor cuyas teorías no deben ser consideradas puntos de partida para programas de investigación sobre nuestras realidades, al tiempo que sostiene que algunas de sus maneras de hacer sociología pueden ser presentadas a los jóvenes científicos sociales como apropiadas, inclusive, ejemplares.

A double reading

In this article, the author is motivated by two contradictory and personal ways of reading the work of Pierre Bourdieu. The first one is the outcome of his own answers to the question of whether Bourdieu’s theories are useful or ineffective for research tasks undertaken by sociologists who work in Latin America. The second one grows out of the recognition that some parts of Bourdieu’s work seem to be valuable; not so much in the formulation of research issues, but for the development and growth of sociology students and Latin American sociologists. He suggests that Bourdieu is an author whose theories should not be considered as starting points for research programs focused on our realities, and concurrently states that some of his approaches regarding sociology ways may be presented to young social scientists as appropriate, and even exemplary.
